He Poroporoaki

Written by Charisma Rangipunga 2011
Ka karuerue te papa
He pie aue
Ka huki te whenua
Ka hopo, ka taki kau
Awhio ana i ka Pa kihi Whakatekateka o Waitaha
Me Waimakariri te heke o roimata
Ka rere tou e, ka rere tou e
Haere atu ra koutou
ki te tauwhirotaka o ka  ma tua tı puna
kia na na tia koutou e ra tou ma
E kore rawa koutou e warewaretia
He mea tıtı ki te manawa, a ake tou atu
Ka ta huri atu ki a ta tou ka waihotaka
E kore pea e taea e kupu noa
te tuku atu i te nui o te aroha, o te mamae
O te po uri ki te nei a huataka kua pa mai nei ki a ta tou
Ka pe hea te whakatau i te nei o ka ahua?
E kore pea e taea.
Te ra pea, ma te nei ka ea
Ko au, ko koe. Ko koe, ko au.
Ahakoa ka  hau kino o te wa
Ahakoa ka karu nui o te wai
Ahakoa ka  tairo o Tu tekoropaka
Ka tu tahi, ka tu tou e
Kia Kaha O Tatahi

The land heaves
A desperate call is heard
the land thrusts
a cry of sorrow resounds
across the Canterbury Plains
Our tears flow like the river Waimakariri,
gushing torrents day and night
Go our loved ones,
to be embraced by those who have gone before you,
to forever be cherished.
You will never ever be forgotten.
Remain forever in our hearts.
Turning now to those of us who remain
there are perhaps no words
which express the hurt, the pain,
the gravity of this event
How then does one console another?
Is it even possible.
Perhaps then it is best to say this
We stand here together
Despite high winds
and regardless of rough seas
and the forest of thistles in our way
We stand here together
Kia Kaha Christchurch
