Pray the News

Lectio Divina

Reading
Read the news item or commentary slowly and attentively, listening for “words behind the words”.  If you get distracted read it again. Is there any particular word or idea that struck you?

Pondering
Return to what struck you; involve yourself. Look for connections and implications. What memories or associations do you have around this word or event?  What emotion does it engender in you? What facet of your being does it tap into?

Praying
Name the implications and emotions.  Is there a request you want to make to God?   Or maybe you have already become aware that your God has given you a word or a grace without being asked to; name it.

Contemplation
What happens here might be quite fleeting and subtle, but like fine wine it will leave an aftertaste to savour.  Be still and silent inwardly and outwardly. Listen to your heart. Listen for God’s word.

Action
What might the insight mean for you in practice?  Is there any thing you can do? Any attitude you might change?  Any person you might talk to?

Is there any comment you would like to make in the Forum?
